#20140901 - BE 2nd year student looking for college fee

Beneficiary is a 2nd year B.E (Civil) student studying in a Rajapalayam engineering college. She is originally from Virudhunagar town and staying in college hostel.

Her father died when she was in her 1st year in the college and he was a load man. After the demise of father, her mother does tailoring work and gets Rs.100 per day with which they are able to run the family. She has a elder sister studying in Thirunelveli and she got educational loan of Rs.2.5 lakhs

When the beneficiary tried for study loan during the first year they were not able to get it citing the reason that there is already a loan for their elder daughter and they might not be in a position to pay back. The bank asked them to approach during the 2nd year but with the demise of the father the situation has become a lot more grave and the banks were not in any position to grant a loan. Even if they grant loan paying it back will be tough for this family unless either one of them gets a job.

First year fees was Rs.95,000 (tuition + hostel) and it was arranged by her father by mortgaging their own small house to one of their relation for Rs.80,000. The house is still under mortgage and they are living in the terrace of that house by building a small room.

Knowing the situation the college has waived the tuition fees and asked the student to pay the hostel fee only. They are not able to pay her 2nd year hostel fees yet. This cause was referred to us by her classmate who came to know about Aalayam. Her current expenses are taken care by her class or college mates.

She seems to be good in her studies: scored 7.962 (GPA) in her 1st year, scored 1040/1200 in HSc and scored 469/500 in SSLC.
